Welcome to my career site. I use this space to post information about my professional work experience. Thank you for visiting the site. If you would like to learn more about me, please continue reading or you can email questions | 848MattHins@gmail.com

I‘ve been working in marketing & communications roles for most of my career with data & reporting as core responsibilities since 2012. While pursuing a graduate degree in media & communications in 2006, I was able to participate in an internship with a WGBH-affiliated documentary production company. With that opportunity, I gained a great understanding of the post-production process and workflow, while also being exposed to some basic marketing and promotional projects.

After the media internship, I held two project-based contract positions; the first with a global health nonprofit, where I supplied writing, design, and programming skills for a large-scale website redesign project, and the second with an independent publishing company, where I provided proofreading, copywriting, and marketing support for several book projects.

In addition to these initial marketing and media opportunities, I’ve also been a freelance photographer and video professional since 2007. In that time, I’ve focused mainly on covering events and producing media to support clients’ marketing efforts. I’ve produced images and video for non-profit fundraisers, corporate conventions & summits, private events, and stock video or headshots for professional websites.

From 2012 to early 2016, I held a full-time position with Penton, a publisher of trade magazines & niche-market directories, tradeshow organizer, and marketing services provider. As a Marketing Associate with the aviation group, I was involved with digital communications strategy, multichannel campaigns management, content development, HTML / CSS programming, graphic design, and web analytics. The professional experience provided a well-rounded survey of the marketing field.

In fall 2016, I joined the Boston Bar as the organization’s Marketing Manager. In the position, I oversaw brand strategy, developed marketing plans, and managed promotional campaigns to increase membership, drive attendance to networking conferences & events, and engage sponsors around the organization’s core mission. Although there was endless potential in the role, my wife and I decided to relocate to idyllic Western Mass, where we could afford our first home in an ideal community for our growing family.

I was very fortunate to land a position at UMass Amherst with the Isenberg School of Management Marketing & Communications team. At the time, our team was focused on implementing Salesforce as the primary CRM for the business school and pilot project for campus. My role as data analyst was to establish a primary set of Tableau dashboards for lead generation and academic recruitment. I eventually moved over to the Isenberg Metrics team, reporting into the Dean’s Office, where team responsibilities focused on accreditation, media rankings, and other ad hoc reporting.

In the midst of COVID, I was reallocated to the Isenberg Graduate & Professional Programs office, where I was able to head up several high-level projects touching each of the business school’s graduate programs in areas related to market & competitive analysis, tuition & revenue modeling, academic program assessment & curriculum review, course section planning & faculty allocation, monitoring & reporting on student success, and related business intelligence projects. My short stint with the Isenberg Graduate & Professional Programs team was one of the most rewarding and professionally expansive roles of my career.

After five years with Isenberg, I took a new position across campus with the centralized marketing & communications team in University Relations. My current role is focused on business intelligence, where I integrate & transform raw data from disparate sources into reporting data models. The aim is to provide cross-campus staff, faculty, and leadership with access to information that they can leverage in day-to-day operations, decision-making, and long-term planning. I have built reporting models to facilitate discussions, optimize key performance indicators, and assist in awareness & insight-building in areas related to competitive analysis, marketing campaign efficacy, finance & revenue generation, opportunity nurturing & admissions recruitment, and monitoring student success. The technical challenges of the role motivate me to keep learning, and the creative opportunities inspire me to push the confines of traditional data analysis.
